TOURISM IN THE BIG NORTH OF CHILE

The arid land and the world's driest desert, near the beaches, the sea, the high Andes and the fertile valleys give northern Chile geography captivating beauty. The North is composed of the main attractions of the regions Arica and Parinacota, Tarapaca Antofagasta, Iquique, Calama and San Pedro de Atacama.

Each of these places and their surrounding areas are famous for their natural scenery, their history and rich cultures which date back to prehistoric times

Parks and national monuments as; Lauca, Isluga and the Salar de Surire protect much of the biodiversity of the area.

In the fantastic topography of the Moon Valley and the desert of Atacama, the geysers of The Geysers and hot springs valuable archaeological heritage of the hill geoglyphs pucarás Pintado and Quitor and Lasana, is added. Synthesis of the meeting between the pagan and Catholic practices is the feast of the Virgen del Carmen in the town of Tirana, 72 km east of Iquique.

Past exploitation of guano and saltpeter gave way to an important mining activity, with the Chuquicamata copper mine (Calama), and commercial, represented by the ports and tax free zone of Iquique.

The movement of the seaboard cities contrasts with the tranquility of the peoples of the desert area. They can perform both adventure and cultural activities. They also have an excellent range of proposals for housing, infrastructure and services designed for travelers worldwide.
